John Carter / Marvel MCU crossover
Six months after the Battle of New York, SHIELD received a strange communication. Several gigabytes of data via radio transmission, all on a planet called Barsoom. Specifically, the city state of Helium and the theoretical physics of an unlimited power source called the Ninth Ray. The radio techs who picked up the transmission initially thought it was some bizarre comic book plot, but the analysts wanted to take a closer look. The communique itself had been transmitted in Greek, Latin and English. Turned out Barsoom was another word for Mars, and the city state of Helium was located at the center of an anomalous energy reading NASA had reported years ago. It was legit. All of it.
But that wasn't SHIELD's concern. After New York, any transmission that included the words 'Tesseract' and 'Chitauri' were immediately red-flagged. Turns out, the Ninth Ray and the energy at the heart of the Tesseract were the same thing.
Three days later, using an artifact that allowed a form of teleportation between planets, the theoretical physicist who wrote the definitive treatise on the Ninth Ray (and Regent of the Royal Helium Academy of Sciences) walked out of a cave in the Arizona desert.
Dejah Thoris has been advising SHIELD's scientists on the advanced theoretical physics of the energy source in every Tesseract related artifact. She's also been giving Director Fury headaches as she insists on sneaking away from the secure facility to go exploring among the people of Earth. Something that visiting alien royalty really shouldn't do, especially if they aren't Asgardian. At four hundred fifty years of age, Dejah doesn't really take direction well.
